Our Approach to Covid Under New Presidency

As we all know very well, the Covid-19 global pandemic has been a challenge to take under control, especially from a political standpoint. Attempting to prevent the spread of this deadly virus has been constantly hindered and complexified due to the polarization between political parties in the current United States government. Now that President Biden has taken office, the approach for Covid-19 may differ from that of Donald Trump’s presidency. Here are the plans and goals that Joe Biden has in place for the future America as we continue to tackle the pandemic.

The Joe Biden administration plans to take actions such as:

  • Increase the variety and accessibility of free Covid-19 testing for all citizens
  • Establish the ease and efficiency of the vaccine distribution
  • Implement emergency paid leave for workers affected by the virus
  • Restore the White House National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense, which was eliminated during the last presidency
  • Fund a U.S. Public Health Service Reserve Corps to activate former Public Health Service Commissioned Corps officers to expand medical and public health capacity
  • Call for an immediate increase of federal resources to cover all necessary federal costs, allocating resources with this formula: 45% to state governments, 45% to local governments, and 10% reserved for special assistance for “hot-spots” of community spread
  • Create a State and Local Emergency Fund that gives state and local leaders the power to meet critical health and economic needs
  • Amend the Public Health Service Act to immediately cover all necessary testing, treatment, and preventive services
  • Fully funding and expanding authority for the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS)

These are just some of the goals that Biden has planned for our nation.  Whether the agenda is effective or follows through, we can all agree that we hope it is what is best for the health of our citizens so we may hopefully see the day where Covid-19 no longer has control over our lives.
