What is your Favorite Christmas Song?

Lauren Grafe and Dylan Grewell

Christmas is the most widely celebrated holiday in the world. When family and friends get together on the holidays, they enjoy a wide variety of Christmas music. During the Christmas season, joy is spread by people gathering together, caroling, and listening to their favorite music. Christmas music is known for being performed in a variety of styles. For example, over the years, holiday music has evolved and has developed from classic to modern pop genres.

Classical music is considered to be traditional popular music. Some classic fan favorites are “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” and “Deck the Halls.” If one is unfamiliar with these classics, it is likely that one is familiar with these famous singers: Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Brenda Lee, and Nat King Cole. These musical choices are featured in popular holiday movies, like Meet me in St. Louis. This movie presents “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” (featured above).

Another popular style of music is modern pop. Songs that many may recognize are “Santa Tell Me,” “Hallelujah,” “All I Want for Christmas is You,” and “Mistletoe”. The famous artists behind these songs are Ariana Grande, Pentatonix, Mariah Carey, and Justin Bieber. The one most familiar is likely “All I Want for Christmas is You.” This song was released on October 29, 1994 and is still considered one of the best and most listened to; this song seems to play on repeat on the radio today and is one that will get you singing and in the Christmas spirit.
