Love Songs Ratings

Tatum Tylke and Addison Smitley

Since love is in season, we have chosen a couple of love songs and rated them. These ratings are just our personal feelings about the songs.

“Always Forever” by the Cults

Addison- 9/10. Always Forever is an excellent song to listen to at all times of the day, no matter what mood you’re in. I enjoy the vocals and background music. It’s not gonna be everyone’s favorite song, but this style of music is usually something I like.

Tatum-  5/10. Personally, I didn’t find this song to be very good. The vocals and background music are exceptional, but it is hard to tell what the words are. When I hear a song, I like to listen to what the singer(s) are saying, which was not possible for me with this song.

“I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith

Addison- 8/10. On top of this being a good song, I like the band as well. The lyrics are definitely the best part, when thinking about love songs this would be the first one to pop up in my mind. There is only one way to interpret this song and I think, personally, that is the whole reason it is good. But, the song is a little long and repetitive.

Tatum- 8/10. “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” is a great example of a love song. The lyrics and background music are definitely what make the song. Though it is too repetitive and lengthy for my taste.

“You’re My Best Friend” by Queen

Addison- 8/10. Queen is yet another band that I enjoy. The vocals are exactly how I like them and the lyrics are good. Though, you could interpret the song in a different way, platonically. The song is a good mood-setter, it makes me feel excited when I hear it.

Tatum- 9/10. Anytime I hear this song I want to (or do) sing along. I like how the lyrics are about loving a best friend, but the song in general is not lovey-dovey. This is a cheerful song and I smile anytime I hear it.

“Heart-Shaped Box” by Nirvana

Addison- 9/10. Nirvana is one of my favorite bands on the whole earth. The vocals are just amazing and I love how the background music sounds. It’s not their best song ever though, and for a love song, there are some parts where it doesn’t seem like it.

Tatum- 9/10. I’m just going to start with the video for this song is comical. It is hard to tell whether this song is really a love song in parts of it, but it is a good song. My favorite part of the song is the “Hey. Wait.” part, I like the way they sound when they say it.

“November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses

Addison- 7/10. The lyrics for this song are catchy and enjoyable. Usually, I am a fan of these types of songs but I cannot seem to like this one that much  The song is also quite long, and got hard to listen to after a minute or two.

Tatum- 6/10. The instrumental composition of this song is truly amazing, though the actual song is not my favorite. I like Guns N’ Roses, but this song is not their best in my opinion. Also, this song is very lengthy.

“R U Mine?” by Arctic Monkeys

Addison- 10/10. Again, one of my favorite bands except it is my favorite band. This song is possibly one of my favorites, I listen to it almost every day. The lyrics are perfect and their vocals never fail to amaze me, they are satisfying to listen to.

Tatum- 10/10. First of all, the music video is funny to watch. They clearly made it themselves and it is amusing to watch them pass the camera around. For the actual song itself, the lyrics and background accompaniment are very good.

“Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow” by Freddie Mercury

Addison- 10/10. The main reason I like Queen is the vocals, so obviously I love Freddie Mercury. The background music along with his voice is extremely good. The song lyrics are perfect as well, I can’t properly describe why I like the song, but I just do.

Tatum- 9/10. The lyrics for this song say to me that he has a relationship and his loved one is going to pass. So they spend one last day together loving each other. It —though it sounds happy— is a sad love song. I like the song for the meaning in the lyrics.

“Forever” by Kiss

Addison- 9/10. Kiss, mwah. The song is good, and I’ve been meaning to listen to the band. there’s nothing else that I can say about this.

Tatum- 8/10. I really like the instrumental portion of this song. This song needs to be in a movie, it would be perfect in a film set in the 90s.

“Why Can’t This Be Love” by Van Halen

Addison- 6/10. I just can’t like it that much, I don’t like the background music or the lyrics. I feel like if I would give it a few more listens I could learn to like it though.

Tatum- 3/10. This song is hard to listen to for very long. I definitely do not like this song, and I don’t believe I ever will. The music is all over the place.

“I Want You To Want Me” by Cheap Trick

Addison- 8/10. Groovy and his voice is very relaxing. There’s not much more that I could mention, that I haven’t already.

Tatum- 6/10. This song is okay. The vocals sound good, but the lyrics are too repetitive. The background music doesn’t fit very well.

“I Miss You” by Blink-182

Addison- 5/10. It’s an okay song, and I know it from when my family used to play it. I could recite half of this song if someone were to request it.

Tatum- 10/10. I listen to this song and all the other Blink-182 songs on a daily basis. When I hear the intro music, I instantly start singing the lyrics even before they actually begin. I might have a problem. I love to sing at the top of my lungs the “Don’t waste your time on me, You’re already the voice inside my head” part.

“The Rock Show” by Blink-182

Addison- 6/10. Again, I just don’t like it that much. To listen to the song I would need the music video. It’s a little better than “I miss you”, though.

Tatum- 9/10. I love Blink-182, but this song isn’t my favorite. I think it may be a bit too repetitive for me. The vocals also aren’t my favorite.

“Feeling This” by Blink-182

Addison- 7/10. this song is significantly better than the others, but I still don’t like it too much. I think this is one of the only bands that I didn’t know the name of until I listened to the songs.

Tatum- 10/10. Probably my most favorite song of theirs. I love the lyrics and music. It’s a funny song to listen to when paying attention to the lyrics. I greatly enjoy singing this song.
