Fall is here. Brown leaves crunch under your feet as you walk down the street lined with trees full of bright scarlet, gold, emerald, and bronze leaves. Ohio is preparing for winter, and the beauty of nature is all around you. It’s cold outside; but you are warm and cozy in your cable knit sweater and jeans. You warm your chilly hands with a warm cup of coffee or tea and munch on a gooey chocolate chip cookie as you make your way down the street. Sounds wonderful, right? As you might have guessed by now, the fall season is upon us, and it is time to enjoy the season in full. If you are not yet feeling the fall spirit, there is still time to embrace everything fall with five of my favorite things about fall.
Fall Festivals
Pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and the T-county fair all make the season better. I always know fall is here when I am at the fair looking through all the animal barns, drinking the best lemonade ever, and staring at the largest pumpkin I have ever seen in my life. The season would not be complete without the Swiss Festival, the Halloween parade, and many other fall-themed events that our community hosts from September to November. There are also a plethora of corn mazes and pumpkin patches that can fill your weekends with fun and photo opportunities. I encourage everyone to go to at least one of these places or events this fall. They always set the tone for the rest of the season.
Fall Shows
Gilmore Girls is my all-time favorite show to binge watch in the fall. The fall atmosphere only gets better with the town’s classic gazebo, Luke’s Diner, and the quirky residents of Stars Hollow that cannot be found anywhere else. Dover High School junior, Abby Herman, believes that Gilmore Girls is so perfect for fall because “the streets are wet and it’s almost always dreary. It always seems cold in the show and the characters dress really cozy all of the time.” I couldn’t agree with you more, Abby. Gilmore Girls always brings the fall nostalgia that we all could use this time of year.
Fantastic Fall Food
Apple cinnamon muffins, pumpkin anything, and kettle corn all make my list for mouthwatering fall foods. There’s just something about cinnamon that makes any food (within reason, of course) fit with the season. Fair food also makes the list, with rows and rows of trailers filled with delicious, over-priced treats that everyone is dying to buy each year. I feel like food makes everything better, and fall food is no exception.
Refreshing Fall Drinks
Pumpkin spiced anything is a must-have during this season. When September comes each year, fall lovers flock to Starbucks the second their fall specials make the menu. Pumpkin-themed drink combos and fall desserts replace the well-loved summer specialties that people cannot get enough of. Whether you choose a pumpkin spiced latte, chai tea latte, or any other fall themed beverage, it is sure to get you in the fall spirit. I for one always feel more festive when I’m holding a warm London fog latte and an owl cake pop.
Friday Night Football
Friday night football games are a staple activity for high schoolers across the country. The fun of sitting in the student section and cheering for Dover every Friday night gives students memories they will remember for a lifetime. Also, supporting the Dover band as they steal the show at half time only makes the experience better. Even if you are not an avid sports enthusiast, it is still fun to join in with all of the chants, dress-up themes, and cheering to support the Dover football team.
