Candles can set any scene and can create the atmosphere for any occasion. I think it is crazy how much a scent can set a certain mood for anything. There are so many good scents, but which one is the best for the best Christmas feeling? My mom and I recently went on a shopping trip to rate candle scents.
- Festive Pine and Punch
Me- 0/10, it was a mix of just sweet and a tree. It was more like if you made a candy treat but put maple sap in it.
Mom- 1/10, it had no Christmas feeling. It felt like they made a sweet candle and then gave it a Christmas name with packaging.
- Gingerbread Frosting
Me- 1/10, it was really overwhelming. I love gingerbread anything, but this candle was not giving gingerbread. The candle just wasn’t good, and I really did not like it.
Mom- 3/10, it was overwhelmingly sweet. Some candles are good sweet, but this one was just way too sweet.
- Winter Wonderland
Me- 3/10, this candle literally smelled like nothing. Maybe we were being desensitized to the smell because of the other bad candles.
Mom- 2/10, the candle was nothing. There was nothing to smell about this candle.
- Christmas Cheer
Me- 4/10, I liked the packaging, and it was really festive. I didn’t expect the scent, and it wasn’t too sweet, but there was just something there I didn’t like.
Mom- 8/10, it smelled very sweet, and it wasn’t too sweet like the other ones. It was very nice.
- Fireside Flannel
Me- 6/10, similar to the Festive Pine and Punch, it really was like a sweet tree to best describe it. I did like it, but when I think of a fireside I think of the smell of the smoke, and I really didn’t smell that in this candle.
Mom- 7/10, it has a cozy feel to it. I like the feeling the name gives it. Also, the packaging is very nice.
- Holiday Spruce
Me- 4/10, I really don’t like the smell of maple, especially in a candle. I understand why they would make a maple-scented candle for Christmas, but I really cannot stand the smell for anything.
Mom- 10/10, it smells like a Christmas tree, which I love. There really wasn’t anything wrong with the candle that I could find or smell. (My mom has always loved that eucalyptus smell, and I think that this candle reminded her of that.)
- Eggnog Latte
Me- 6/10, I think it really just smelled like you put sweetener in a cup of milk. This sounds like a bad thing, but I really liked this candle for some reason. Definitely in my top two.
Mom- 1/10, I think it smells almost exactly like spoiled milk. The only reason it gets a one is because I like the packaging
I think I learned I’m just really picky about candles and that it is fun to smell the different scents candle makers think of to make a Christmas scene. I’ve never been the type of person to just go to a store that has a candle section just to smell them, but this might have changed me. It was really fun to do; it was fun to do it with my Mom. We have very different tastes in different things, so it’s always fun to do these types of things with her.
