On May 29th of 2005, Natalee Holloway disappeared in Aruba after a graduation trip following her high school graduation. This quickly made international news and resulted in a media sensation throughout America after Holloway did not attend her flight back to the United States with her classmates. The last time her friends had seen her was at a nightclub called Carlos’n Charlie’s with a man named Joran van der Sloot.
After discovering this information, Joran van der Sloot became the prime suspect of Holloway’s disappearance. However, for almost two decades he remained silent on the vanishing of eighteen-year-old Holloway. Five years following the missing report of Holloway, Sloot was found guilty of the murder of twenty-one-year-old Stephany Flores Ramírez. He was arrested in Chile and sent back to Peru to serve his twenty-eight-year sentence for pleading guilty to the murder of Ramírez.
Months prior to the killing of the twenty-one-year-old, Sloot was charged with telling Natalie Holloway’s parents and their lawyers false information about the location of their daughter and information on her death in exchange for a substantial amount of money. According to CBS reports, his information ended up being worthless, and he lied to the family and lawyers about where Holloway’s body was. By providing this deception, many came to believe that Sloot was a psychopath.
He did not even admit to the murder of Holloway until early October of 2023, almost 18 years following her disappearance. Thankfully, her parents finally received closure after Sloot revealed the truth about how he killed Natalee and what he did with her body. Sloot confessed to the murderer as part of a plea deal. Sloot admitted that Holloway was refusing his intentions, so he responded by ending her life and disposing of her body in the ocean after killing her. After his confession, her parents admitted that even though it was difficult learning the truth about their daughter, they believe it is better than not knowing and continuing to wonder what happened to her. Although Natalee Holloway’s mom believes that Joran van der Sloot finally told the truth about the remains of her daughter, she still questions if Sloot was not the only one connected to the murderer of her daughter. Do you believe Sloot was the only one involved in the death of Natalie Holloway? A student at Dover High, Peyton Grafe, says, “We may never know; however, I believe that there were more people involved in this tragedy, and Sloot is indeed a sociopath.”
