As many know, in recent years I have been fortunate enough to engage in the art of songwriting. I have been grateful to have been given once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as having my own gigs at local wineries in Ohio and being able to record my own music in Nashville, Tennessee. On my recent venture in the city of music, I was even asked to sing on stage at Blake Shelton’s Ole Red in the Nashville Airport by a Nashville performer! Despite all those blessings, nothing could have prepared me for the opportunity I would be presented with while recording my latest originals over spring break.
While recording at Heartthrob Studios under the guidance of my manager and mentor, Craig Reynolds, my father and I were approached by the CEO of an uprising music company, Music Habitat, Brandon Beard. Without hesitation, I was offered a position on the company’s upcoming record label after Brandon witnessed me pouring my all into my music during recording time. While the thrill of being able to say that I am on a record label is a dream come true, what means even more is that I am now able to say that I am a spokesperson for a company that supports those just like me.
If all goes to fruition, Music Habitat is on its way to being the next biggest thing for the music industry. The queen of pop, Taylor Swift, stated it herself: streaming services are not enough for the starving artist (www.verge.com & www.musichabitat.com). More options are needed for singer/songwriters and others like myself to be compensated for their work as platforms such as Spotify are no longer providing what is needed for artists. Additionally, with as competitive as the music industry has become, individuals seeking to chase their dreams encounter obstacles such as not being able to obtain performance opportunities or they struggle to make a deserved profit.
As an independent singer/songwriter from a small town, it means a lot that Music Habitat is working towards a better future for individuals with a dream they are hoping to chase. While trying to build my name in the industry, I have struggled to know how to connect with venues and individuals on marketing platforms in order to provide the best insight into my morals and passions as an artist. Through Music Habitat, marketing will be made easy as I will be given the assistance I need in order to focus on what’s most important: the music that I’m writing. With the potential to help independent artists make a profitable living from their passions while simultaneously promoting them, Music Habitat has the opportunity to become one of the most popular music resources, right up with Spotify and Pandora. CEO Brandon Beard states that Music Habitat’s goal is to “make sure that anyone that has music in their heart has an opportunity to do what they love.” Without proper resources, many struggle to reach their full potential, and Music Habitat aims to change that.
In addition to the benefits it offers for performers and artists, Music Habitat will also become a game changer for venues. Music Habitat’s app is eventually going to be set up like a “dating app” for artists and venues in order to ensure the best opportunities for both parties. Business owners will be able to use the platform to connect them with performers also using the platform that will be a good fit for their venue. Then, by asking a Music Habitat to perform, the venues will be able to attract their audiences and have an opportunity for more business. Thus, everyone makes their individual deserved profit.
The music industry is too complicated and too difficult for one to conquer alone. Music Habitat understands this, which is why they are dedicated to helping artists, venues, and performers alike. While the launch of Music Habitat isn’t scheduled to be until summer of 2024, I am thrilled to say that I will have a small piece of its beginning. I get to be a voice for others like myself, striving to reach for the stars. Through Music Habitat, I have the best chance I’ve ever had to establish myself to the world as a songwriter and musician. I can’t wait until the world gets to see what Music Habitat has to offer for the millions of artists just like me, and their corresponding venues alike. This is the start of something new, and I’m diving in headfirst.
