Moo Deng, a pudgy and playful baby hippo, has become an immense global internet sensation. At just the ripe age of two months, Moo Deng has risen to unstoppable fame. Her name, literally meaning bouncy pork, not only adds to her popularity, but also her chaotic personality. She likes to bounce around and squirm all throughout her enclosure at unexplainably fast speeds. Moo Deng resides at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand with her mother and two other siblings, Moo-tun (stewed pork) and Moo Wan (sweet pork). This two month old baby hippo has enthralled all those around her. People stampede into the zoo hoping to catch a glimpse of Moo Deng’s glory. Moo Deng is not just an ordinary hippo. You see, she is a pygmy hippo, this means she is a miniature hippo. Her petite size feeds into her cute and adorable charm. Sadly, less than 3,000 pygmy hippos are still in existence, causing the species to be labeled as endangered. Moo Deng is one of the few still out there holding on to the pygmy hippo legacy.
As Moo Deng goes about her day, the internet goes into a frenzy concerning the superstar baby hippo. People scurry all throughout the zoo looking for Moo Deng, so much so that zoo officials have allowed only 30-50 visitors to visit Moo Deng for five minutes at a time. Top security measures are put in place to guarantee all possible safety for Moo Deng. People have had the audacity to throw food at Moo Deng trying to provoke her into doing her trademark little bounce. Due to Moo Deng’s immense popularity, the zoo has instituted a 24/7 livestream of Moo Deng. The zoo has turned into Hollywood, and Moo Deng is the superstar.
As Moo Deng goes about her day, she bounces and hops at immense speeds. All photos taken of Moo Deng are slightly blurry. No one can seem to capture a still photo of the chaotic yet cherubic baby hippo. The active baby hippo even squirms in her sleep. She is always on high alert for whatever may come her way. When Moo Deng is not causing disarray inside her enclosure, zoo keepers are trying their best to give Moo Deng a bath. If you cannot tell by now, Moo Deng does not listen or take orders from anyone. She is her own animal and an independent icon. Out of protest and spite, she will “bite” the zoo keepers and flee from the scene. Moo Deng has no teeth, so what she may think are ferocious bites are really teeny chomps. Moo Deng thrives on a day to day basis, splashing in water, bouncing around, and redefining beauty standards as we know them. With her pink chubby cheeks and potato-like body, Moo Deng is revolutionizing the world. Again, this is Moo Deng’s world, and we are just living in it.
