A controversial but genius collaboration was born at the beginning of September 2024. The brands Oreo and Coca-Cola came together and blended their diverse flavors, forging an unexpected friendship called “Besties.” With this came an Oreo-flavored Coke Zero, and Coke-flavored Oreo cookies. It is said the cookies combine two different halves of flavors. The original flavor of the Oreos is on one half and the other is jazzed up with the inclusion of Coca-Cola syrup and popping candies to mimic the fizzy feeling of drinking Coke. For the soda, it is unclear what exactly is modified; however, it can be described as Coca-Cola with hints of flavor inspired by Oreo Cookies. In this article, we will be putting this interesting flavor combo to the test to determine if they should really stay “friends forever.”
This is what Dylan had to say. I enjoyed the flavor of the soda because I think it was a perfect mixture of both the Oreo and Coca-Cola tastes. It had somewhat of a weird aftertaste, but after a couple of sips, it was rather tasty. I am also delighted that it is zero sugar so anybody can try it without worrying about it affecting your body poorly. I would rate the soda an 8/10. For the cookies, I think the pop rock addition to the wafer was an amazing idea, and it made it feel like I was eating Oreos and drinking Coke simultaneously. The flavor was extraordinary, and I enjoyed it. I would rate the cookies a 9/10! I think that everyone should at least try one of these food options before it disappears off the shelf.
This is what Camryn thought about the collaboration. I think that the flavor combinations blended together in a strange way. The soda tasted like regular Coke Zero with an aftertaste of Oreo, and I give it an 8/10. It was weird how accurate the Oreo taste was in the Coke. The cookie was okay, but I thought that it was almost sickeningly sweet. I give that a solid 5/10. Overall, for me, this collaboration is a 7/10.
Next, we have Addison Wikoff, a Junior at DHS. She enjoyed the flavoring and texture of the Oreo much more than the Coke. She liked how the pop rocks were popping in her mouth to give the fizzy feeling of drinking the soda. She said the Coke tastes bland and just like the original Coke Zero. She described the flavors as artificial and not appetizing. She believed it was a waste of money and no one should go out of their way to purchase it. She did state that if given the opportunity to never try this again, she would take it. She rates it a 3/10.
To conclude, this collaboration could have been better, but definitely not something to rave about. The taste was just missing something overall and needs improving. Both the cookies and soda are surely an acquired taste which may be the downfall of this collaboration. There is something off with this but, we don’t know what could be changed to improve upon the flavor. We’re not sure that this pair should be permanently on the shelves, but it’s a fun limited-edition snack!
