Holiday traditions are among the most important activities during Christmas time. Most families have some sort of holiday hobby, including putting up the Christmas tree, decorating the house, making Christmas cards, watching Christmas movies, or baking cookies. In my family, every year we make cookies and decorate them together. After that, we put up the tree and decorate it. Although we make a bunch of different cookies, I still have my favorites, and if you have ever had Christmas cookies you probably do too.
Some of the cookies my friends and I will rank will include Snickerdoodles, M&M cookies, peanut butter blossoms, gingersnaps, and cut-out cookies. Snickerdoodles are known for their chewy and soft texture and the sweet cinnamon-sugar coat on top. M&M cookies are also soft and chewy cookies that include M&Ms and sometimes chocolate chips. Peanut butter blossoms include a Hershey’s Kiss in the middle of the peanut butter and brown sugar cookie. Gingersnaps are flavored with powdered ginger and, most commonly, cinnamon. And one of the most well-known types of cookies, the cut-outs. Cut-out cookies are different-shaped cookies in which you place the cookie cutter into the dough.
For me, I think that the top of my list here belongs to a gingersnap cookie because that flavor is just so amazing every time I eat a gingersnap. Next on my list would most likely be peanut butter blossoms because I love the taste of peanut butter, and the Hershey Kiss on top is just what it needs to be one of the best cookies. After that, I would say M&M cookies are my next favorite because it’s just the perfect amount of chocolate with the cookie and it provides a little bit of crunch to the treat. I would then rank Snickerdoodles next for the soft cinnamon texture and taste, but it’s not my favorite. And at the bottom, I will put cut-out cookies. These just don’t stick out to me, and they normally dry out too fast and become dry. Although I think the frosting adds a lot of flavor to it I don’t think it’s enough to remedy the dryness of the cookie.
I will now introduce Addison Wikoff, a junior at DHS. This is what she had to say about the topic. Personally, I think Snickerdoodle would be at the top of my list. The softness of a properly-baked Snickerdoodle cookie is like no other. It is the perfect amount of tangy balanced with a fine amount of cinnamon and sugar. Next on my list is the classic M&M cookie. You can never go wrong with a thick and chewy cookie filled to the brim with M&Ms. They’re easy to make and a family favorite. Following the classic M&M cookie is another admired cookie, peanut butter blossom. This cookie originated in 1957. The peanut butter cookie dough topped with a Hershey Kiss holds a special place in my heart. My grandma and I have baked these cookies for years, and although they might not be for everyone, they are still great. After peanut butter blossom would belong to cut-out cookies, these cookies are simple. They make for a good snack and have a layer of a basic cookie topped with icing. Finally, we have ginger snaps. I have personally never tried ginger snaps, so I would not know.
As you can see, Addison and I only rank five out of hundreds of pastries. There is a wide variety of Christmas cookies all around the world. In this article, our opinions also vary when it comes to which one is our favorite. I love gingersnaps, and Addison has never even had them. In conclusion, everyone has different tastes, and not everyone agrees on which cookie is superior.
