Wendy’s is a well-known restaurant and a favorite to many. It is a more reliable fast food restaurant for ice cream than McDonald’s, which is notorious for the ice cream machine breakdown. Wendy’s has a famous dessert, known as a Frosty, a creamy dessert with the consistency between a milkshake and soft serve ice cream. Lately, there has been a dilemma going on: One of their best Frosty flavors keeps disappearing!
To start, Dave Thomas founded Wendy’s on November 15th, 1969, and it is around 55 years old, proving this restaurant’s success. Back when Dave Thomas was still around, he created the Frosty. The first flavor was the chocolate Frosty, a vital part of Wendy’s history. It is arguably the best Frosty that Wendy’s has ever produced. The chocolate wonder is an iconic Wendy’s item, along with the spicy chicken nuggets and the cheesy potato.
The chocolate Frosty was so tasty that it took until 2006 to create a new flavor. In August 2006, Wendy’s introduced a new amazing flavor, the vanilla Frosty, to the lineup. These two basic flavors that most people like were more than enough to go around. Unfortunately, someone had the idea that Wendy’s needed more variety with Frosties. If Wendy’s was a Frosty Shop, this would not be a problem. However, because Wendy’s sells more than just Frosties, there is only enough room for Wendy’s to sell 2 flavors, leaving no room for ‘more variety’. In the summer of 2022, Wendy’s released a new strawberry Frosty. To make room for the new strawberry Frosty, the vanilla Frosty had to leave. To anyone who was allergic to strawberries or loved the vanilla Frosty, this was tragic.
It took what felt like forever until the strawberry Frosty was finally replaced the first time. It almost felt like Wendy’s planned on keeping the strawberry flavor permanently. Because Wendy’s had never done anything like this before, it was hard to tell if the vanilla flavor would ever come back. Eventually, this Frosty switchup became seasonal. In November of 2022, Wendy’s released a new peppermint Frosty for the holidays. The flavor peppermint replaced strawberry since Wendy’s will never give up their iconic chocolate Frosty. While strawberry may have been a popular choice in the summer, peppermint could not compare to any of the other flavors before it and was nowhere near as good. In September of 2023, a pumpkin spice Frosty was introduced for the fall flavors. This one was certainly better than the peppermint.
In early 2024, the vanilla Frosty finally came back- and what a relief that was! It seemed like everything was back to normal. When spring hit Wendy’s introduced the Orange Dreamsicle Frosty and booted out the vanilla Frosty again. In the summer of 2024, the triple berry flavor was brought in. In the fall, a Pineapple Under the Sea flavor inspired by Spongebob Squarepants was introduced. In November, the salted caramel Frosty took over and finally transitioned back over to the vanilla Frosty.
Overall, the vanilla Frosty gets booted out every time a new flavor comes out and is brought back in again. It keeps getting taken off the menu and I, for one, miss it. Based on history, the vanilla Frosty is back again, and it will probably disappear soon. Since Wendy’s has not exactly followed a specific seasonal Frosty flavor schedule, it is difficult to predict what is next.
On the upside, life, like Wendy’s Frosties, is unpredictable. What tomorrow brings is always a mystery. Therefore, it is important to value the Wendy’s vanilla Frosty while it is around since no one knows when it will be kicked off the menu. The lesson of the vanilla Frosty is a really great moral to celebrate. It makes the Frosty hold more value than before! To celebrate the return of the classic Wendy’s vanilla Frosty, be sure to buy one while it is still out!
