In Crimsonian, Artist Spotlights have given artists at Dover the opportunity to showcase their artwork, respond to constructive criticism, and be recognized for their talents. However, as the school year approaches its final quarter, I will now be writing my last Artist Spotlight. As president of the Dover Art Club, it has been a true honor to represent those who have unimaginable talent and so much to be proud of. With that in mind, I would like to present my own artwork as my last Artist Spotlight.
Rodney Yakley is a senior at Dover High School and has been president of the Dover Art Club for the past two years. Over those two years, she has organized events and has led various projects with her classmates, such as painting the windows of downtown Dover in the fall. When Rodney is not participating in Art Club, she can always be found drawing or playing the flute in the Dover High School Symphonic Band. Rodney is also a part of the National Honor Society.
Rodney’s artwork has been recognized at several art competitions, having recently won second place in the Tuscarawas County Juvenile Art Competition. In the past, her artwork has been recognized at the regional level and has been placed in the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts as a part of the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Competition.
Mrs. Keri Stratton had this to say about Rodney, “Rodney Yakley is a friendly and creative person whom I have had the pleasure of having in class for the past two years. During this time, Rodney has proven to be a responsible person who is well-liked and respected among her peers. Rodney’s positive attitude enables her to be an effective leader and has made her an invaluable member of the student groups in which she participates.”
Rodney plans to attend Kent State University in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in the Arts. In the future, Rodney hopes to become an art teacher at Dover High School.
A slideshow of the pieces are featured in the article.
