The Billboard Hot 100 chart is calculated on physical and digital sales, radio airplay, and streaming. The company, Penske Media Corporation (PMC), which also owns Billboard Magazine, has a tracking week that begins on Friday and ends on Thursday. It is then released on Tuesday each week. In this edition of the Billboard song review, I will update you on the current top 10 songs and include some opinions from DHS students.
#1: “Ordinary” is a song written by Alex Warren. It was released on February 7, 2025, in the album You’ll Be Alright, Kid. Warren wrote the song with producers Adam Yaron, Cal Shapiro, and Mags Duval. When this song was released, it landed in 61st place amongst the top 100. Since June 6th, 2025, Warren’s song has been in the top spot.
#2: Second on this list is one of many songs that debuted along with Netflix’s hit movie, KPop Demon Hunters. On June 20th, 2025, the film was released and quickly gained traction, earning widespread attention and praise for its unique visual style, writing, and music. The film features a fictional K-Pop girl group that debuts a new single as part of the storyline. This single is called “Golden,” performed by Rei Ami, Ejae, and Audrey Numa, known as Huntr/x in the film.
#3: “What I Want,” by Morgan Wallen featuring Tate McRae, debuted on May 16th, 2025. This collaboration marks the first time Wallen has worked on a song with a female songwriter. Wallen said that the collaboration with McRae was something that had been planned for a while; however, the song “What I Want” was not initially intended to have a female singer. Wallen said in an interview that she had amazing vocals and “crushed” every part of the project.
#4: Next on this top ten list, we have another K-Pop Demon Hunters song. This song is called “Your Idol”. However, this time it is not performed by Huntr/x, but by the fictional boy group called the Saja Boys. The song was performed by Andrew Choi, Danny Chung, Neckwac, Kevin Woo, and SamUIL Lee (who made up the five members of the Saja Boys). This song made up the seventh track from the film’s soundtrack.
#5: The fifth song currently on the top ten is another song from the Saja Boys. “Soda Pop” is a catchy tune that has everyone’s shoulders moving to the music. The song lyrics sound romantic and fun, but they hold a more toxic meaning in the film. It actually serves to achieve the Saja Boys’ goal to deceive and consume the souls of their fans. If you haven’t seen the movie, I would highly recommend checking it out.
#6: “Love Me Not” by Ravyn Lenae is from her second album, Bird’s Eye. It has become really popular on social media. The song was inspired by a popular game that involves plucking flower petals and saying the phrases, “He loves me” and “He loves me not.” What makes this song unique is that it is very different from the rest of Lenae’s music. It worked out amazingly, delivering what could end up being the best R&B song of the year. It has a fun beat, but it is also super relatable and heartbreaking for many people.
#7: The seventh song on this top ten list is “Lose Control,” written by Teddy Swims. It was released on June 23, 2023, on his debut album, I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy. It is a piano ballad that has R&B elements, while also introducing a jazz and country vibe. Critics praise Swims for blending emotional vulnerability and a catchy appeal. It also topped the charts in Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Iceland.
#8: “Daisies” composed by Justin Bieber on his album Swag. It features simple lo-fi beats with the lyrics expressing themes of insecurities and commitment. The song received praise for its quick climb to the top five in multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The singer talks about usually feeling uncertain in his love, but remains committed to overcoming the hardships to ultimately find clarity and reunite with his significant other.
#9: The next song is another Morgan Wallen piece, named “Just in case”. The song was released on March 21, 2025, as the fourth song on his fourth album, I’m The Problem. Wallen teased the song a week before its release on his social media accounts. The song was written by Wallen along with John Byron, Josh Thompson, Alex Bak, and a few others. It was produced by Joey Moi and Charlie Handsome.
#10: The final song on this top ten list is once again another song from the hit Netflix movie K-pop Demon Hunters. Four of the 12 songs from this movie are currently in the top ten, and many others are in the top 100. “How It’s Done” is another Huntr/x single. It rapidly gained popularity on social media for its insanely catchy bridge. It was sung at the beginning of the movie to hype up their fans to try to seal the Honmoon. The Honmoon is a magical protective layer that prevents the demons from entering the human world.
Next, I would like to introduce a DHS student to give their rating and opinion on this list. I will then include my thoughts, wrapping up this article.
This is what Addison Wikkoff, a senior at DHS, had to say about this top ten list: “I think this top 10 list could be a lot better. “Golden” being the number two song makes sense. I am not mad about K-Pop Demon Hunters being on this list 4 times. I personally am not a huge fan of Alex Warren, so I really don’t care for his song, “Ordinary”. Along with “Ordinary”, I do not listen to Morgan Wallen, and I don’t plan on it anytime soon. I think “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” are fun. “Love Me Not” is also fun and might be one of the only good songs on this list because “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims DOES NOT deserve a spot on this top 10 list, and it feels like it has been on here for years. I haven’t listened to “Daisies” or “Just in Case”. Finally, K-Pop Demon Hunters is on this list again, and I am ok with that since it is super popular.
My Opinion: I think this list should get a 6.5/10. It doesn’t have enough to be great; it is just okay. I think the K-Pop Demon Hunters movie is a very interesting story that includes multiple catchy tunes. I also really enjoy hearing Rayvn Lenae’s song, “Love Me Not.” It was very popular on TikTok, but I don’t see it very often now. It makes the song much more enjoyable now that I don’t hear the song every 3-4 videos. I’ve personally never heard of Alex Warren’s music, and I think Morgan Wallen has some good music, but I don’t know if I’ve heard that song either. “Lose Control” is one of my least favorite songs of all time, which caused my rating to drop.
As we can see, a single Netflix movie has taken over this top ten list. Still, we have a variety of tunes that keep playing on repeat, whether they’re being featured on radio stations or on various streaming platforms. These songs have themes and rhythms that make them hard to resist.
