Summer’s right around the corner, and school is almost out. What are your favorite things to do over the summer? That question right there pondered Kara and me. Here are some of your peers’ favorite summer traditions
Many students enjoy going outside during the summer. For example, Gavin Mastroine, a sophomore at DHS, likes to go outside to spend time with friends. His favorite activities include riding bikes, playing pickleball, disc golf, or wiffleball, and sitting by the campfire.
Freshman Lilly McCoury said going to the beach is her favorite tradition. When I asked her why, she said, “This is my favorite summer activity because going to the beach is like a vacation that represents summer, and I just love it. It is beautiful, warm, relaxing, and super fun!”
We asked junior Abigail Elizabeth ( Mason ), and she said her favorite tradition is gardening. When asked why, she said, “Gardening is special to me because I like to see what I can grow. It helps me to feel more independent because I am learning a skill that could feed me.”
Freshman Abby Lint also likes to spend time outside. She said, “I like to play wiffle ball with my sister because it brings back memories of when we were little and used to play together. It honestly just makes me happy to be doing stuff with her.”
We then asked freshman Emilee Milburn what her favorite thing about the summer was, and she said walking. When I asked her why, she said, “I love walking in the summer as it isn’t cold, I can drink cooled drinks with frosted ice cubes to cool down from the warm sun.”
Luke Fockler, a sophomore, said his favorite summer tradition is attending Catholic Conferences because it helps him grow closer to God.
Cassie Baker, a freshman at DHS, said her favorite summer tradition is swimming. When we asked her why, she said: “It’s fun and gets me a good tan, also, there are so many places to swim around here, it’s just a great thing to do in Dover.”
Sophomore Serenity Blickensderfer said she enjoys swimming with her friends the most. When asked why, she said, “It’s just something you can’t do in any other season!”
Co-writer Allie Parker’s favorite thing about summer is hanging out with friends. When asked why, she said “I love it when I get to go on vacation, have family hangouts, or just get to go to my friend’s house and swim in their pools. Those are simple, fun ways to be outdoors, hang out with people that care about me without a stressful environment, which I really enjoy in the summer!”
Co-writer Kara Lint said her favorite thing about summer is playing games with her sister, Abby, or her neighbor, Avery. Kara’s utmost favorite summer activity is camping out in the backyard with her neighbor and sister in their giant tent. When asked why, she responded, “I love spending time with my friends and sisters, so these activities are super fun, especially when it is super hot outside, making everything funny.”
Most of the peers we asked said the same thing in a way, with swimming and tanning being at the top, then hanging out with friends. We agree with all of our peers and say that swimming, tanning, and hanging out with friends is our favorite way to spend our summer break! Happy Summer!!
