As our time in the old Dover High building comes closer to an end, we start our first lasts. This year we will be saying goodbye to many aspects of the building that have given us some of the “memories dear we’ll cherish.” Many of those memories have taken place in the auditorium, providing us with the great gift of theater. The feeling of walking across the stage, the lights beaming down, hearing the echoes of the actors’ strong voices as they carry through the balcony\; these are the feelings we will never forget. This year will be the last fall theater production on the stage in the old auditorium. In an effort to thank the building for giving us the opportunity to shine, the thespians of Dover High are putting in much effort to make the last production a great one.
The 2019 fall play was announced in September as originally 12 Angry Jurors, a combination of the productions 12 Angry Men and 12 Angry women. After auditions were held, Mr. Tom Morris, DHS theater director, created both a cast of 13 young women and 13 young men. 12 Angry Men was written by Reginald Rose and adapted from his teleplay for CBS Studio One, but 50 years later made its Broadway debut, where it ran its course of 328 performances. Following the closing arguments in a murder trial, the 12 members of the jury must deliberate, with a guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen. As the dozen men try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a room, one juror casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface, and conflict threatens to derail the delicate process that will decide one boy’s fate.
DHS’s production of 12 Angry Women will take the stage Wednesday, November 7th at 7 pm and Sunday, November 10th at 2 pm. The all-male cast production takes place on Thursday, November 6th at 7 pm and Saturday, November 9th at 7 pm. Tickets will be on sale in the DHS box office.
