There are 8 stairwells in all of Dover High, the great old crumbling building we all go to school in. Only one of these 8 stairwells can win the biggest contest to ever happen at DHS. This contest is even bigger than the Dover – Phila football game. An audaciously amazing acoustical contest!
In seventh place is the senior hall stairwell going from the stage tunnel all the way up to Ms. Nign’s room.
The second least important spot (sixth) goes to the stairwell right above the one door that is supposed to be locked yet never is until night time. Everyone knows that one, the big one. It is hard to describe, to say the least, because the ACOUSTICS ARE TRASH.
Fifth place gets to go to the MAIN main stairwell next to the auditorium. This stairwell is a good stairwell…to walk up. The acoustics are horrible, and voices do NOT travel at all.
The fourth most important spot lays claim to the surprisingly unknown stairwell next to the board room. This stairwell is always quiet so it makes for good singing, but the acoustics of the stairwell are crap.
Half time now.
In third place, the most suspenseful spot goes to the stairwell leading down to the choir room. This fire hazard makes for fun times singing on the way up to one’s next class which one will evidently be tardy too.
Second…second…second…place…place…place…goes to…goes to…goes to…the main hallway stairwell across from the nurses’ office. It carries a voice very well, but doesn’t make the cut for singing due to the noisy traffic.
Break time. The honorable mention goes to, you guessed it. It’s not a stairwell, but in fact a hallway. The basement hallway, but more specifically the one towards Mrs. Stanley’s room and not the one towards Mrs. VonKaenal’s room. This hallway is so old that there is nothing to absorb any of the sound, so the reverb is absolutely bonkers.
Aaaaaaaaaand in FIIIIIIIRSSST PLAAAAACEEEEE HALF FLOOR STAIRWELL ONE AND TWO!!! The amazing reverb, ever-changing lighting, and the great view of the new school make for an amazing spot to sing or make weird noises. Congratulations half-floor stairwell one and two!
