The Weird Side of Dover

At Dover High School people are given plenty of things to remember long after graduation. There are a lot of memories, from football games and pep rallies to lunchroom chats and in-class jokes. To go along with all of the great memories made at Dover also come some bizarre ones. These weird memories are memories that we will never truly forget.
Many of the things heard in the halls cannot really be proven or disproven through conversation. There is a lot that you really must see for yourself to believe.

If you go to Dover High School, then you’ve probably heard of the pool in the basement. I hate to be the one to break it to you all, but there is no pool. The pool is just a long-running joke the upperclassmen of Dover love to tell the incoming freshman. Once you hit junior year, though, feel free to spread the tale to any student who looks lost.

Along with our new school comes lots of construction. Around the first few days of school students definitely noticed the giant pile of dirt that resided on the front lawn of DHS. We aren’t too sure why it was put out front or for how long it will be there, but we have all eventually gotten used to the large mass of dirt and it’s become second nature to see it outside.

In the halls of Dover, there are many cork boards that are meant for our school officials to post important messages and events, but that’s not always what they are used for. Of course, students have taken the liberty of putting up whatever they feel will get the most laughs from those who pass by. Occasionally, while walking to class, one might see someone’s favorite meme or joke. The student body gets quite creative. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and if you choose to partake in this form of expression, you must make sure your message is appropriate. Also, please note that all signage must be approved by the administration before posting.

There are a couple of drinking fountains and bathroom stalls out of order. Wondering whether that is due to construction, or that they have just never worked, is lost time. Over these drinking fountains and stalls that don’t work there are garbage bags. Not that unusual, but you might expect just a sign that says “out of order” instead of a bag. I guess the bag makes it obvious to steer clear from those places. Although, some students have said one of the drinking fountains that has a bag on it does actually work. They are not exactly sure why there is a bag over it, but I think the school knows best in this case.

The students of Dover create many myths, as well as making some things a reality. Nonetheless, these things can be pretty weird, and they have nothing to do with the school itself. Most of the wild and wacky things at Dover are caused by, or started by, Dover students themselves.
