A Look at the Upcoming Dover Basketball Season
Christmas is getting closer and closer by the minute. This time of the year is truly magical (even if there is a global pandemic occurring at the same time, but we won’t talk about that). The air is filled with excitement and anticipation for one of the greatest holidays, the weather isn’t too cold yet, and early holiday cheer is found everywhere you look. This, among many other things, lets us know that the holidays are coming. However, one of the other important items that makes the holiday season even better is the game of basketball.
Sadly, this upcoming season will look a little different for both our boys and girls teams. The pandemic has placed some restrictions on sporting events, but at this point, I’m just glad that we can still continue playing sports, especially for our seniors, who have been working hard and are looking forward to making this season the best one yet. A positive for both teams, however, is that they can finally play in the new and beautiful DHS gym.
Our girls basketball team is excited to begin another season as they have been preparing since the summer months. This year, Kyle Dummermuth takes over as the new head coach. His experience and guidance have already been proven effective in helping the team get better. Thankfully, the transition between old and new has been fairly seamless. The only thing that has been a bit of a struggle is memorizing all the new plays, but other than that, things are going well and the upcoming season looks promising. Of course, one of the issues new teams have to deal with is finding where freshmen fit into the mix. The five freshmen have definitely found their way, though, and the team is starting to feel more like a family. This year’s team will be led by seniors Hannah Neff, Lia Conner, and myself. Hannah, Lia, and I are excited and looking forward to having a great year. As long as the pandemic doesn’t take away the season, we have a chance to go pretty far. The girls all have great potential to do amazing things on the court for us this year. The team has been growing close and is ready to begin this season.
Our boys basketball team is also excited to begin their next season. This year’s team will once again be led by Coach VonKaenel as he enters another year of coaching. His many years of coaching experience add to the already talented team the boys have this season. The seniors this year are Isaiah Shaw, Nathan Ravine, and Caleb Grove. The boys have been working hard over the summer to get ready for the season, and their hard work and dedication will pay off in the long run. The team is expecting to have a good season, with contributions from the seniors as well as the rest of the team, and their schedule this year will make that happen. As the season goes on, the boys are also hoping to grow closer to each other and increase the already high team chemistry. All of the boys have roles on the team, and they all have high potential. This season will most definitely be a good one for our boys.
We wish the best of luck to both teams as they begin their seasons. We’re excited to see what the future holds, and we hope both the boys and girls have a great season and do great things. Go Dover!
