Thanks for choosing Dover Wendy’s! You can order whenever you are ready! Hey there, will this be for here or to go? Let me know when you’re ready. The world of a fast food worker can be strange to those who have not done it. Not a whole lot of people know what all goes down behind the counter in the back by the grills and fryers, the office, or the walk-in cooler. Those who do, get it, and if you have just begun working, it’ll take a little bit of getting used to before you get the hang of it. For example, you will have a thirty-minute break after every five hours of work, and certain jobs must be done at the time marks.
For me, I have been working at Dover Wendy’s for over two years, and a lot has changed from when I first started to where we are now. I went from learning just one position to knowing how to do all positions for the crew workers. It can be very stressful at times and very, very busy, but it can also be a lot of fun. I enjoy my job even when it does get difficult. There are seven different positions at Wendy’s for the crew. These positions are Back Cash, Grill, Fries, Sandwiches, Front Line, Coordinating, and Order Taking. As I report for my shift, I pull into the parking lot, head inside behind the counter, and clock in on the computer at the front. I then would look to see what is happening around me in the work environment and help get anyone caught up. I look for where someone has a lot to be done, or I stock up anything that is running low.
Once I get assigned a position, whatever it may be, I will work it to the best of my ability. Of course, it’s not just staying silent through the whole shift. That would get really boring really quickly. My coworkers are an interesting bunch of individuals. I did not know them from anywhere before, but now I have gotten to know them fairly well. We enjoy joking and making each other laugh. Sometimes people question the sanity of Wendy’s crew, but we joke around a lot to offset the stress that we have from the job itself. Even though the tasks are simple enough, it is very repetitive, and stress can get to you in a high-energy environment. One order at a time is how I take it and move forward from there to get the screens cleared. Then at the end of the night, we clock out after cleaning everything up to go home and relax after a good, hard day’s work.
