When was the house built?
The house was built in 1895 (or possibly 1870) but nobody can confirm. The location is 3159 West 11th st, Tremont Neighborhood, Cleveland, Ohio. The structure of the house is a modest two and a half story structure with a distinctive front porch, classic staircase, a living room with a fireplace, kitchen/dining area where the leg lamp shines, and bedrooms upstairs. When the house went up for sale, it came as listed: the house, adjacent Bumpus house, museum, and gift shop. All of that was located in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood. The house was also home to many families, although they cannot be named because they had lived there before the film.
Background of who has owned the house over the
The current owner of the house is named Joshua Dickerson. He took over after the main buyer, Brian Jones. Although Dickerson owns it now, Jones had bought the house for restoration in 2004 because he was a super fan of the film. Dickerson is a Clevelander who has been involved with the house since it opened, and is now the owner, running daily tours and operations throughout the house. Jones, the previous owner, a total film buff, purchased the house off of Ebay in 2004 and transformed it into the museum and B&B it is today.
The Transition
As of what Jones says, how he decided Dickerson the new owner is as follows: “ I approached Dickerson with an offer to buy an equity stake and become my managing partner, ensuring the house’s future would remain dedicated to the movie’s legacy.” This went everywhere simply because everyone thought Jones was a super fan and would never partner up with absolutely anyone because he was selfish. They had put it out that he was partnering with Dickerson, everyone was stunned and even more people started showing up to the museum to see the original artifacts of the house and the wonderful place they had made it still holding all the movies, the same old everything.
When was it filmed in and then opened to the public
The house was chosen for the movie in 1982 to 1983 and was opened for tours in 2006. The house was filmed for 1 whole year and was the top place to visit even when it was still being filmed in. The Christmas Story House is absolutely amazing. I have been there once and all of the original props in the house are the same as the Christmas Story! The little stores that are connected are so cute and have so many souvenirs.
