Stranger Things season one first aired on July 15th, 2016. The show is about kids playing DnD in the beginning, but one of their friends ends up being taken by a demogorgon, which is a DnD creature in a place that’s called ‘the upside down’, which is loosely based off of the Nether from Minecraft, so they are pretty alike. The second season came out on October 27, 2017, which is around a year to wait. This season brings back their friend, and more DnD critters are introduced. Season 2 is a lot of fans’ least favorite season, and the directors took this to heart, making fans wait even longer for the next season so they could work harder on it. Season 3 came out July 4th, 2019. Around 2 years to wait for a new season is understandable, considering how much editing would have to happen and to film everything. Still, I think it could’ve come out sooner, but it is understandable. This season was way more action-packed, and overall, many people’s favorite was how much is included in just a few episodes. The Mind-flayer is in full effect in this season, also a character in DnD. Season 4 came out in its entirety on July 1st, 2022. Now waiting three years for a season. This is a little bit of a stretch. They started filming after a year the 4th season came out, which I understand because all of the main actors are filming a bunch of other movies and considering they have been filming Stranger Things for years is understandable, but I do think waiting around a year to film is a little bit of a stretch. Season 4 was a great season. Bringing in more of the background story from the now main villain, “Vecna”, also a DnD character. The rest of Season 5 comes out on December 31st, 2025. Another 3 years of waiting for the finale. This show has been going on for 9 years. With the first part already out, I (and many others) can tell how much production value is going into it. On the other hand, though, waiting for a show that people have been waiting for for years makes the 3 years feel even longer.
The Duffer Brothers (the producers of ST) have been doing it where the season doesn’t all come out on the same day together, rather, around 4 episodes coming out each month. This causes a lot of backlash since there’s no benefit for us viewers. I understand many people don’t want to watch it all in one night right when the first part comes out, but many have been waiting for years, and each episode ends on a cliffhanger, so many just end up waiting. The different parts coming out by themselves could be to build suspense for the consumer or for others to catch up from the other seasons. This show has been going on for, as stated, 9 years. The main kids started this show when they were around 13 years old, now ending the season at 22 years old. The main kids are supposed to be 16, and they do not look around that age. I don’t think this is that big of a problem, but it does irk many. It’s easy to tell the actors do like this show, but want it to end soon so they can get on with their career and not always be busy filming for one show they’ve been in since they were a kid. Personally, I think each episode should come out all at once. I’m so excited for the next part and cannot wait any longer.
