The gift of giving, something that brings joy to many. Often gifts are given with the impression of leaving a lasting effect. With a new school arriving in the next few months, the Class of 2020 has decided to give a gift in remembrance of the first graduating class from the new Dover High.
Last school year, class officers Gabe Miller and Noah Morris, along with class advisors Mr. Tom Morris and Mr. Benjamin Miller, comprised the proposal of the gift for the brand new building. The officers and advisors concluded they will be gifting a brick sculpture in the shape of a tornado above the main entrance of the new Dover High School building. Mr. Benjamin Miller commented that the “placement of the brick sculpture was a collaborative effort between the class advisors, class officers and administrators.” The tornado will be placed to the left of the Dover High School lettering, and the brick will include the quote, “Class of 2020.” The plans for the lettering and tornado include a light to increase the visibility of the display. The tornado will be a similar sandstone color to match the brick of the new building.
When asked about the reason behind the gift, Noah Morris reported, “ Between Gabe Miller and myself, we were conversing back and forth, throwing out ideas when Gabe suggested including the mascot.” The pair later recalled, “the Class of 2020 has a wooden cut out of a tornado that stands a few feet tall painted in crimson and gray that has been utilized in every Dover Phila week that the class has decorated for.” The wooden tornado has been a “trademark” for the senior class and the mark will be left on the new Dover High School when the class graduates.
