The first nine weeks have come to an end. Kids have finished half of their semester classes, and now have an idea of what to expect in each class. Teachers are no longer taking it easy on students like they were on the first day, and usually, around this time of year, kids will tend to struggle. A great way to help these students out is tutoring.
Tutoring occurs right after school, Monday through Thursday, in the school library from 2:35 PM to 4:30 PM. Any high school student is welcome to stop by. If a student wishes to come by after the school day ends, that individual must come in through the front entrance and into the office to come in. Anyone coming in will need to plan the transportation changes necessary to leave.
Tutoring is a great opportunity for students who are struggling with grasping a specific topic or keeping up with work. Experiencing this one-on-one learning time with another person can assist these students. For other students, tutoring is a great replacement for a study hall. There are many reasons to come to tutoring, such as trying to raise grades, struggling with an assignment, designated time to lock in, or finding a place where you have extra time to study for a test. I have been to tutoring, and it is fairly quiet, about the volume of a small study hall.
At tutoring, Chromebooks are available for students who need to work on online assignments. There is also a math teacher available to help all four days of the week, as well as a science teacher on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Snacks are provided for students who come in to work.
For someone like me, tutoring is a great opportunity. It gives me 2 hours of time to work on makeup work if I fall behind. If I miss an entire day of school, this helps me to make up the work and get it turned in on time. I am not the type of person to sit down at home and work. I don’t come home to work. Tutoring helps me to better focus on an assignment because a teacher there can walk me through it if I am having trouble concentrating.
Some people may make tutoring seem like the type of thing that smart people don’t do, but it is simply not true. Everyone needs help every now and then. People who seek help are able to excel academically. It is smart to acknowledge the need for help and attempt to fulfill that need.
If tutoring is not something you would like to try, try talking to teachers or other students. Asking questions and having conversations can help reinforce learning skills, whether it is during tutoring or not.
Even if tutoring is not for you or you are not able to go, remember that if you are struggling, try to find a solution. That could be finding extra time in your schedule, making sure that you are eating right, managing your time wisely, and getting enough sleep. Self-care is a crucial part of your day. If you don’t take care of yourself, you may start to struggle with school in general. Tutoring cannot help people who cannot help themselves, so if you may need it, don’t be shy and come over for a day.
