This is why I write: I hope that others feel the same way.
I write because it is my way of expressing myself. Writing helps me to take what is in my brain and put it on paper into words. It helps me to release my thoughts that I cannot tell people or when no one else is around.
Writing is not always personal. Sometimes works I write are written because I have to, mainly because of assignments. As someone who writes for a school newspaper, I can understand that not all assignments are written about exactly what the person wants to write about. There are rules and limits, and true newspapers that actually earn money have to write what people want to hear. In these situations, writing is more of a personal skill or art. Even in these scenarios, writing in general feels like I’m doing something right.
Another reason that I write is because telling stories is part of my story. I am an author at heart. I love to come up with small stories that help me escape reality for a while. Normally, my writing does not focus on me in my situation, but on someone else. The situation does not affect me personally, but it still gives me something to think about. It gives me a break from whatever situation I am in, whether I am bored or in a negative scenario. It also helps me experience tough situations or think about potential scenarios without actually experiencing them. Writing is my way of sharing those thoughts with others, and could potentially also give the reader a break from reality.
Writing is a form of entertainment to me. I also enjoy going back to what I have written in the past and rereading. When I do write, I will write and write for at least an hour. Often, I am in a moment of life where nothing is going on, and normally, I am waiting, I will write.
Writing also helps me to stay organized and keep my thoughts together. I write to-do lists, grocery lists, and whenever I am planning something, putting it on paper helps me to visualize exactly what I am planning. It simplifies what feels complicated, and limits what is unlimited in my head. It also helps me keep track of details I would otherwise forget.
Writing is also a form of communication. It is a way of talking without directly speaking to a person. It can be online through texting or emailing, or by hand to write a card or letter. Some people enjoy using it to write secret messages or ‘code’. People who specialize in computer software also use a form of writing to code.
Writing is not all of me. Focusing on other aspects of my life is also important to me. However, writing is a basic part of life that is involved basically everywhere, much like math. It is a language that brings people together, or a culture that many understand. It is something that many people can relate to and understand, and brings fantasy into reality. This is my last article as a Crimsonian writer, and I hope that whoever reads this will feel inspired to write.
