The Crimson Cafe is a place where you can get cookies and drinks during 7th and 8th period. The workers at the cafe take their job of serving customers seriously and want to keep the consumer satisfied. If students get thirsty or want a snack at the end of the day, Crimson Cafe is where it is at. This cafe offers super good service, and students can even give the workers tips. Every item on the menu is under $3, which makes everything super affordable for high school students. The cafe offers new menu items every month according to the holiday or season in that time frame. They just put in a new addition where they pick names from each grade level, and those names will get a free drink or cookie of their choice. The workers switch shifts from 7th – 8th period every day, so DHS students never know which one of their favorite workers will be there that day. There are around 10 workers who run the Cafe alongside teachers. We interviewed 7 of them with the same four questions: “What do you like about working here?” “What is your favorite purchasable food item?”, “What do you think is ordered the most?”, and “If someone were to tell you they have never been to the cafe before, what would you tell them?”.
First, we interviewed Tristen, a valuable worker at the Crimson Cafe. He is either on the register or making drinks. He had awesome answers to our questions. Although he did say he was a little nervous, only because we did not give a heads-up when we were coming for the interview. The answer to our first question that we asked Tristen was, “I like that I get to work with all of my friends here and go on our awesome field trips as an award for hard work.” This response really shows how much Tristen enjoys his job! Tristen’s second answer was, “The frozen hot chocolate,” he said, thanks to Cole. He now loves drinking the frozen hot chocolate when he gets one. His next answer is, “definitely the frozen hot chocolate, the cookies, and the lemonade.” He then says, “If you have never been to the cafe and you want a sweet treat or a drink, come down to the Crimson Cafe.”
Following that interview, we interviewed Kolsen. He works as the cashier. Kolsen stated that he loves interacting with the customers. He also loves making people’s day. Everyone who works there are friends, so he said he also likes working with his friends. Kolsen’s favorite item from the shop is “definitely cookies.” With Kolsen hearing the orders during the day, he said the most ordered is the lemonade. He thinks that the frozen hot chocolate is not ordered as often as many of the other workers said. To people who have never been to the cafe, he said that you should definitely come down if you want a sweet treat during the day.
Next was Angel. In his interview, he made sure to talk about how much he enjoys serving at the cafe. He answered the first question with,” I like working here because the customers that come and say hi to me make me super happy and brighten up my day. I also love making the coffee and everything else we serve.” He then goes on to answer the second question like this,” My favorite item has to be the hot chocolate or the super yummy coffee.” As well as answering the third question,” I think iced coffee is the most ordered because it is my favorite as well.” The final question he answered,” if you have never been to the Crimson Cafe you should come because we have really good stuff.”
After Angel, we interviewed Cole. Cole likes working with his friends and seeing people come by every day. Cole came from Garaway before Dover. At Garaway, they have something similar to the cafe, and he had brought the frozen hot chocolate to Dover from Garaway. Cole thinks that the strawberry lemonade is ordered most often because he mostly works on drinks behind the counter. Cole’s favorite drink is lemonade. Cole thinks that everyone should come and see the cafe.
Coming after Cole, we have Toryonna. She says, “ I love serving the friendly customers who come to the cafe and want all their delicious snacks and drinks.” She then went on to answer the next question, which she said, “definitely the cookies. Everyone orders them.” Afterwards, she answered the third question,” frozen hot chocolates, even though we haven’t had any orders in a while.” Troyonna then answered our 4th question with, “I would tell them what’s on the menu and all the awesome stuff we have.”
After that, we interviewed Brayden. Brayden works 8th period instead of 7th. He enjoys working and seeing his friends in the work environment. Brayden loves the cookies. He also thinks that the most ordered item is the same as his favorite, the cookies. Brayden says that you should definitely come down to the cafe if you have never been there before.
Second to last, we interviewed Lylli. Lylli enjoys working with her friends, as many of the others do. Lylli says the most ordered is the frozen hot chocolate. Her favorite food item is cookies. Lylli most likely preps instead of how many of her coworkers serve customers. She would say to someone who’s never been to the cafe before, “We have good stuff and it is worth it to come down.”
Finally, we interviewed the leader of it all, the workers’ boss, Mrs.Tonya. We did not ask Mrs.Tonya the same questions as the workers. We interviewed her and asked her to end this article about her amazing workers. She had said that she would love to. This is what she said, “I enjoy watching students gain independence and practice their customer service skills in a controlled and friendly environment. Their growth this year has been amazing. An impactful moment for us this year was when a former student used part of his first real-world paycheck as a donation to us. We were able to make permanent improvements to the cafe for many years to come. Mrs. Tonya also thinks that cookies and frozen hot chocolates are for sure the top-selling menu items.
