Have you ever thought on a homework assignment, this would be so much easier using AI? I know I definitely have, but there are actually several cons on using AI on assignments and that it can affect your learning abilities. Let’s talk about some of these reasons why using AI on assignments can affect your learning.
- Using AI doesn’t make you do the thinking or teaches you anything: when you use AI, it doesn’t allow your brain to fully understand what you are learning because you just put your problem into AI and it will give you the formula and answer.
- Using AI doesn’t let you fully grasp the concept you’re learning in class: When you use AI on homework assignments, you aren’t allowing yourself to practice, therefore not allowing yourself to fully understand the topics that you are learning.
- Using AI won’t help you know your topics for the EOC’s: When you just use AI, you might learn stuff well enough for the quiz ( which in unlikely ) but you definitely won’t remember things that you learned six months ago and it will be significantly harder to pass the EOC’s which you need to graduate.
- When you use AI you are affecting your grades: Some students will use AI on all online assignments and homeworks, but then when it comes to tests and quizzes, the students aren’t prepared or have the knowledge of the subject.
- AI doesn’t always have the right information: When you use AI, it doesn’t always have the answers your teacher wants or doesn’t have the correct work, and that could lead to points taken off on assignments and could then affect your grade.
- AI forcing academic dishonesty: When you use AI, you are committing academic dishonesty, which means you are lying to your teachers and taking credit for AI work on all of your assignments. If you are caught, there can be serious consequences such as detentions and possibly Friday school.
Now, there are a few pros to using AI, such as helping you understand a certain topic that you might not understand, or just to help on a really tricky homework problem.
- Using AI can help you understand a certain topic: Say your teacher is absent on a certain day or even if it is a very off day for you and you don’t understand the topic being taught in class. In that case, you could use AI for a better understanding.
- Really tricky homework problems: If there is a really tricky homework problem on an assignment that you don’t understand, then you could use AI to help you figure it out as long as you do the work and use AI as a checker and explainer.
I know some of the things that I said above were in both the cons and pros area, but it all depends on how you use AI. For example, how often you use it and if how you use it (like if you just copy it down or if you let AI explain it then try to figure it out from there). That is how AI affects your learning.
